Eat (gorgeous) Pizza, Help Save Lives

4 07 2012

The 2012 Col’Cacchio pizzeria Celebrity Chef Series, in support of Children’s Hospital Trust, is now entering its third month. The deal is that R5 is donated per Celeb Chef pizza sold, and there’s a new Pizza special each month, and so far over R85,000 has already made its way over to the needy children at the Red Cross Hospital.

The Celebrity Chef Pizza for July is the lip-smacking Liplekker Ribbetjie from renowned Pierneef Head Chef, Chris Erasmus. And if the name alone hasn’t set your tongue dancing, imagine a bechamel-style base, with roasted garlic and rosemary, topped with mozzarella, smoked and braised lamb soutribbetjie, caramelised onion, pears poached in port, fresh rocket and a sprinkling of rosemary salt. It is a unique and delicious combination that has to be sampled and savoured, and you’re lucky I’m here to tell you more instead of already in line waiting to place my order. Thank me later. And then we were three…

1 08 2011

I’ve been stomach-lurchingly suspended in that limbo of not knowing where to start my next blog post for about 6 weeks now. I suppose I should give in to the old adage that the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. Though in this case it would be more like a giant leap into an abyss, with thundering swirling waters rising up to meet you… Ok fine, we know I have a penchant for the dramatic. Some would just call it having a baby and move swiftly on. I, however, am clearly struggling with how to encapsulate something that is all-encompassing, excruciatingly wonderful and breathtakingly beautiful all at the same time. In short, the arrival of our precious Sophie Grace on the 20th June has been the most profound experience of our lives to date. Everything now seems three dimensional. Life has an emphatic full stop. And yet, it is all just beginning.

Without further ado, here she is, the little apple of our eye. Read the rest of this entry »

Trout. Because Spring Has Sprung.

6 10 2010

This had us smiling all over our faces…
Our recent trip to the flat out cool Neighbour Goods Market in Woodstock (with visit to nearby Superette en route) turned out to be one of impeccable timing. With Spring having now officially sprung here in Cape Town, Rob pounced on a freshly caught trout with all the gusto of a cat after a goldfish, and we gloatingly meandered home to make a feast of our prize. Truly, there are few things better than lazy sunny evenings with friends spent watching things cook over hot coals. Read the rest of this entry »

Lamb Chops with Pistachio & Olive Tapenade

6 08 2010

Hey! Miss me?! Well I missed you while I was back in Zimbabwe for the last 10 days visiting friends and family and had to put the blogging to bed for a bit. However, I thought it only fair to give you something to chew on until I get back on top of things, so here’s what I whipped up shortly before going on holiday but haven’t had a chance to post until now.
